Without knowing important information (i.e. location, vitality…) about urban trees, it is impossible to make responsible decisions about how to handle them. Thus, an inventory is indispensable in the responsible management of green spaces and urban trees.

Between 2019 and 2023, 14,438 trees were surveyed, mainly in Târgu Mures (Marosvásárhely), with the help of landscape architecture and horticulture students from Sapientia University of Transylvania. The survey was also launched in Cluj-Napoca (Kolozsvár), Odorheiu Secuiesc (Székelyudvarhely), Oradea (Nagyvárad), Miercurea Ciuc (Csíkszereda) and Borsec (Borszék).

Another of our objectives is to carry out the monitoring part of our projects with the help of UTree. This means that we will follow the planted seedlings for several years, recording their GPS coordinates and monitoring their health and growth rate. In 2021, we have started monitoring our seedlings so far in Sândominic (Csíkszentdomokos) and in the Hodoșa (Hodos) wood pasture.

With the help of our system the inventory is currently mapped by the local community through volunteering. The complete inventory will provide actual data about the status of urban trees, which will help in urban tree management in towns which will adopt our system.
